A near complete copper alloy Hod Hill type brooch with white metal surface treatment of Roman date (c. 43-70AD). Probably Mackreth (2011) sub type 1.b1. The brooch is distorted by flattening and intact apart from the pin and central part of the axis bar. Two fragments of Pewter or copper alloy- one possible vessel rim. Little diagnostic but maybe a medieval or post medieval vessel. A fragment 46.4mm long, 19.8mmwide and a maximum of 1.5mm thick, weighs 5.07g. The fragment has a channel beaten in lengthways with flanking ridges. One long edge is thinner that the other- 0.9mm vs 1.3mm. Possible vessel rim, but every edge is a break, and no other diagnostic features. Form of the sheet gives little indication as to shape due to distortion. A fragment 33mm long, 19.1mm wide, maximum 2.7mm thick, weighs 6.42g. Every edge is a b…

A fragment of a silver post-medieval shilling of Edward VI (1547-1553), unclear mint, 1549-1550 (North 1918/1-1925). Two segments have been removed from the coin leaving a roughly triangular piece, which encompasses most of the central area of the coin along with part of the inscribed edge. The coin appears to have then been rolled up, but a recent break has caused the last segment to separate from the rest of the coin, leaving it in two pieces. The cutting and rolling were deliberate and may have been an attempt to mutilate the coin. Edward VI's reign was marked by social unrest…
