The fragment is a piece of a rim from a large cauldron measuring 11.6mm long x 7.9mm wide x 27.4mm-25.4mm thick. Crudely cast, slightly waisted, copper alloy vessel leg. Length 41mm, width 28-33mm, thickness 18mm, weight 77.4 grams. Identifying the vessel type that this leg is from is not possible. Presumably it was either a cauldron, skillet, jug or ewer. Close dating is equally difficult as the form of the legs like this did not change from the medieval period until the seventeenth century (Read 1995, 95).
