Cast copper alloy vessel, leg, sub-trapezoidal in section. The outer edge and sides are decorated with longitudinal grooves. The leg tapers towards its rounded base. The weight of the vessel leg suggests that the copper alloy was leaded. Probably the leg of either a cauldron, skillet, jug or ewer. Close dating is not possible because the form of vessel legs remained similar from the late medieval period until the seventeenth century (Read 1995, 95). Length 46.5mm, maximum width 31.5mm, maximum thickness 20mm. Thirteenth to seventeenth century.

Cast copper alloy cauldron or skillet leg of Medieval date, probably dating from 13th - 16th century. The front of the leg has a prominent central rib and two side ribs near the top of the leg, where the leg joins the vessel. The rear of the leg has two chamfered edges. The interior of the vessel is present at the apex of the leg, which shows ancient breaks around its edge. One half of the front of the leg has been recently cleaned by the finder, the remainder of the leg exhibits heavy carbon deposits as a result of repeated burning, as would be expected on the surface of a cooking vessel.

Two rim fragments - one fragment has a rim form that is slightly expanded and rounded internally, the fragment is heavily sooted on the exterior, as is consistent with use as a cooking vessel. The other fragment has a more angular internal rim with less sooting evident on the exterior. Short and stumpy straight ridged leg, with central rib and two less pronounced side ribs. The top of the leg has an area of the vessel body attached. The leg has evidence of sooting, with an addition thick carbon deposit on the interior of the body.

Cast copper alloy zoomorphic ewer spout shaped in the form of a dog’s head with a short barrel protruding from the animal’s mouth, probably of 15th or 16th century date. The dog is modelled with apparently closed eyes, small but upright ears and a slight crest on the back of its head. The spout illustrates no evidence of an attachment device, suggesting it was welded or soldered to the vessel. The spout is paralleled by examples from the moat at Cardiff Castle (Lewis 1991, 4, fig 8A)and an unprovenanced example (Bailey 1997, 57-58 no 5).

Rim fragment of a vessel, probably of Late Medieval date. The fragment is relatively thin and is suggestive of a vessel with a comparatively small rim diameter (originally approximately 70mm), possibly suggesting a fragment from a jug or tankard, similar to a mid 14th century tankard found at Caerphilly Castle (Lewis, 1978). The vessel has an incised or turned decorative band on the exterior, at the position of slight shoulder, two narrower incised lines flank the band.

This is a short rectangular-sectioned leg with a bevelled base resulting in the bottom of the leg forming a narrow edge. The leg has broken at the junction with the body of the vessel, and rises to become expanded, with a concave upper surface. The patina and corrosion of the fragment suggests burning, as would be expected with a cooking vessel.

Cast copper alloy ewer or laver spout of late Medieval date, probably dating from the 15-16th centuries. The spout is shaped in the form of a duck's head. Many ewer spouts are in the form of dog's heads such as the example recovered from Cardiff Castle (Lewis 1991, 4, fig. 8A), although duck head spouts have been recorded. The duck eyes are defined by an incised circular ring, the bill is open with a protruding short barrel emerging from the animal's mouth. The top of the animal's head is decorated with short incised lines at the centre and above the brows.

Late Medieval to early Post-Medieval copper alloy chafing dish handle of 15th to 17th century date. The handle is complete and of bifurcating form, with a stud for attachment to the dish (with an overall length of 62.3mm and weighing 42.7g). The looped handle (49.4mm long, 58.2mm wide at bifurcated end and 24.8mm wide at the attachment end) is of hexagonally faceted section (between 3.9mm and 5.1mm thick and between 4.6mm and 6mm wide).
