Cast copper alloy zoomorphic ewer spout shaped in the form of a dog’s head with a short barrel protruding from the animal’s mouth, probably of 15th or 16th century date. The dog is modelled with apparently closed eyes, small but upright ears and a slight crest on the back of its head. The spout illustrates no evidence of an attachment device, suggesting it was welded or soldered to the vessel.
The spout is paralleled by examples from the moat at Cardiff Castle (Lewis 1991, 4, fig 8A)and an unprovenanced example (Bailey 1997, 57-58 no 5).

The rim has a slight plain inturn, before a low moulding defining a decorative panel consisting of a moulded vertical line, which meets a pair of moulded diagonal lines at the top.
