A complete Post Medieval copper alloy posy ring dating from c. 1600 to 1700 AD. The hoop is broadly circular in plan (it is slightly bent out of shape) and is shallow D-shaped in cross-section. There is a central vertical seam which stands proud of the rings surface. The inner face of the hoop is inscribed with the text: I LIVE IN LOVE, in Roman uppercase lettering. The terminal of the letter I splits into two curving serifs. There is no maker’s mark. The ring has corrosion to its surface rendering it a dark reddish brown colour. There are no visible remains of silvering or gilding.

Roman gold finger ring of keeled type. A plain sharply faceted, almost triangular in section, hoop widens into triangular shoulders with an openwork design down both edges, now much worn, but probably originally a stylized foliate design. Between the shoulders is a prominent battered oval, or possibly octagonal, bezel containing a dark blue Nicolo, or Nicolo paste, intaglio. The intaglio portrays a standing male figure looking left with objects held in each hand, probably a depiction of Mercury holding a caduceus (a staff with two snakes winding around it) and a money-bag (Henig 19…

Gold ring in the form of a plain broad band of flattened D cross section. The inner face is engraved with legend X I LYKE MY CHOYS in Roman capitals. The hoop has an internal diameter of 19mm; external diameter of 21.6mm; band width 5.7mm; band thickness of 0.9mm; weight 6.41g. The finger ring from Llangunllo has a form which is hard to date, existing in the fifteenth century, and continuing up to the present. Dating is therefore reliant on the legend and the style of lettering, which is typical of a seventeenth-century date. There are a number of variants of this inscription rec…

Post medieval copper alloy ring, probably a finger-ring of 17th or 18th century date. The circular ring is near-complete with some peripheral damage (with a diameter of 21.2mm and a weight of 3.5g). The ring comprises a uniform rectangular-sectioned band, with straight parallel sides (with a width of 6.9mm and a thickness of 1.3mm). A join is evident across the band. The ring is decorated with single grooves near each edge. The interior of the ring is undecorated and appears to have been finished. It is likely that the ring is a simple finger-ring, it is also possible that it is a …

Silver bezel of a finger ring containing an orangey-red, cornelian, intaglio. The edge of the bezel is decorated by a line of triangles running round its bottom edge and the back by an engraved floral pattern. The intaglio depicts a winged male figure, probably Cupid, a large bunch of grapes and an animal, probably a hare. The intaglio would appear to be Roman, depicting Cupid, a bunch of grapes and a hare. The same combination can be seen on an intaglio from Bath (Henig 1978, 200 no.113) where cupid is holding a bunch of grapes and a hare is jumping up to reach it. On the present int…
