Description Decorative gold stirrup-shaped ring. It has a small bezel for a small blue sapphire, en cabochon. The hoop is of D-shaped cross-section (flat internally). The internal hoop diameter is 19.4 x 20 mm (very slightly misshapen). Minimum band width 2.6 mm; minimum band thickness 0.7mm; weight 3.22g. The ring has not undergone any cleaning or conservation. Conclusions The form of the decorative, stirrup-shaped ring was very popular during the thirteenth century, and is paralleled by rings from bishops' tombs at Chichester, and the medieval collections of the British …
