Description & identification The reported object is a decorative gold posy ring. The ring consists of a thin gold band, D-shaped in section, with a tightly set repeating pattern of tooled S-shaped indentations on the external surface, possibly for enamel, although none appears to have survived. The internal surface in engraved with an inscription which reads ‘Though absent yet constant’ in italic letters in sentence case. An incomplete Post Medieval gold ring, dating from the mid-18th, to mid-19th century, c.1750 to 1850. The ring has a fluted bezel which is formed around the ring’s hoop. The bezel is crushed and the stone is no longer present. The bezel measures 3.39mm high, 6.11mm wide and 2.77mm deep. The ring hoop has a current outer diameter (excluding bezel) of 15.83mm and an inner diameter of 13.65mm, it is circular in cross section.
