Copper alloy looped swivel of uncertain date, possibly Roman
The fitting comprises two parts (with an overall length of 42.0mm and a weight of 20.2g), a looped peg inside a double-hooked frame with socket. The loop is circular (with a diameter of 19.2mm and an internal diameter of 12.4mm) and is of eroded sub-square section. Beneath the loop is a tapering plug, seemingly cast within a circular socket and is held by two strips, which engage with grooves in the plug. The copper alloy handle is complete but the iron key is missing (with a surviving length of 38.6mm and a weight of 15.7g). The bow of the handle is of openwork trefoil form (with a width of 29.0mm and a thickness of 5mm). The outside edge is enhanced with six lipped projections and at the apex is a longer ribbed moulding. The finger-ring is incomplete and distorted, missing the setting and is fragmented at the base of the hoop (with a distorted length of 17.8mm and with a weight of 2.6g). The hoop is of D-shaped section and gradually expands from the base of the hoop to the shoulders (with a minimum width and thickness of 5mm and 2.2mm respectively) and bezel. A fragmentary copper alloy object, potentially a furniture fitting or brooch, of uncertain date. The object is curved in profile, presumably to allow use as a handle and tapers unevenly from the moulded thicker end to a thinner (5.5mm by 2.6mm) d-sectioned strip terminating in a break. The front face of the thicker end of the object appears to bear moulded decoration, although the extremely abraded nature of the object makes it difficult to define what the moulding depicts. The gun is incomplete missing the butt, trigger guard and is truncated through corrosion (with a surviving length of 54.3mm and a weight of 8.9g). The barrel is of faceted, sub-oval section, with straight sides and is widest at the stock (at 7.4mm and 5.0mm x 5.mm at the damaged end of the barrel). The bore of the gun is 3.1mm. A fragmentary cast copper alloy vessel handle from a pot or skillet, likely of Post Medieval date. The handle is cylindrical, circular in plan and measures 98.7mm in length. The handle is thickest at the end with a max diameter of 19.1mm. The end of the handle is smooth and flat with no evidence of percussion marks. The handle tapers gradually from the end and flattens slightly before curving towards the break resulting in a thickness of 12.8mm and width of 14.8mm.
