The hinged spring is secured within a rolled head (18.7mm wide). The sides of the head converge towards the upper bow. The hoop has an internal diameter of 14.1mm and is comparatively small, perhaps suggesting the ring was worn on the distal parts of the fingers or was a child's ring. Cast copper alloy annular buckle of Medieval date, probably dating from the late 14th century to the 15th century. The frame is circular with an external diameter of 48-49mm. The frame is of oval section (6 x 5mm) and is plain. The cast pin is 51.8mm long and has a transverse ridge beneath the loop. The pin has a faceted rectangular section and a maximum width of 5.1mm with sides that converge slightly to a blunt point. The buckle weighs 33.3g.

Head and upper bow of a Roman copper-alloy Dolphin brooch. As is common with brooches of this type the spring is missing, but was originally attached by the chord the spring to a rearward hook in the centre of the head. Much of the original surface is lost but some traces of vertical ridge decoration survives on both arms and the bow. A raised V-shape extends over the head from the rearward hook and a ridged line appears to have run down each side of the bow.
