Post medieval lead pan weight The weight is circular and rectangular sectioned (41.3mm diameter and 5.5mm thick), weighing 70.06g (2.473 ounces). One face is enhanced with cast decoration, now worn and corroded but comprising a pair of concentric ribs, a sword (indicating the City of London), a possible reversed letter ‘C’ and a letter ‘A’ probably indicating Avoirdupois. The weight is broadly consistent with a one-sixth of a pound Avoirdupois Equivalent to 71.0g or 75.73g). The weight may be an official weight as suggested by the sword but is unusual for a trad…

Lead weight, probably of medieval or post medieval date The weight is of near-circular form and of sub-rectangular section, perhaps slightly trapezoidal (31.4mm - 32.0mm dimeter and 6.1mm thick). The upper and lower faces are without decoration but may have contemporary marks, comprising a linear groove on the upper face and irregular recesses on both faces. The weight currently weighs 44.48g, equivalent to 1.569 ounces or 0.098 ponds, suggesting that the weight was possibly originally an eighth-pound weight under the English Troy System (equivalent 46.6g) of medieval or post med…

A cast lead, iron, and copper alloy steelyard weight of roman date (c.AD 43 – 410). The weight is anthropomorphic, and is in the form of a female bust modelled in copper alloy around a lead core for the head and an iron core for the neck and chest. The head is rounded face on but somewhat flattened in profile. The detailing of the face and hair is executed only frontally, using moulding and incised decoration to form a round face with a fairly prominent brow, wide nose, almond shaped eyes, and full lips surrounded by coiffured hair. The neck is 18.9mm in diameter and extends down an…
