The reported object is the pin from a small silver annular brooch of stirrup type. The four facets of the pin shaft, which is of diamond cross-section, are incised with zig-zag lines. The wrap-around head of the pin, which would have secured it to the annular frame of the brooch, is missing, but the stirrups that prevented cloth from snagging are partially preserved (surviving width 15.6mm).

A silver brooch, fashioned from a groat (fourpenny piece) of King Edward I, 1272-1307.
The coin brooch takes the form of a disc brooch, diameter 29mm. The brooch is incomplete, missing the pin and leg (with a surviving length of 36.2mm, a depth of 6.7mm and a weight of 52.3g). The hinged spring is secured within a rolled head (18.7mm wide). The sides of the head converge towards the upper bow. The upper bow has side lugs beneath the head (21.4mm width), beneath which the sides of the bow are straight and convergent. Flat bow of small curvature expanding towards the missing foot. The bow is decorated with fluted reeding, which runs along its entire length and terminates at the moulded transverse rib located at the bow’s junction with the spring-cover. The catch plate is deformed and partly missing but contained a single perforation of indeterminate shape. The brooch contains a bilateral spring held by a copper ally axis bar through a cast lug on the back of the trumpet head with the chord below and free, just pressing against the back of the head of the brooch (cf.
