Copper alloy blade of uncertain date The object is a tanged bladed implement (with an overall length of 71.0mm and a weight of 5.5g). The blade is leaf-shaped (with a length of 36mm and maximum width of 16.5mm) with a central rib producing a flattened lozenge section (2.7m thick). The tang is of sub-rectangular section and both narrows and thickens towards the terminal (with a width of 1.6mm - 3mm and a thickness of 2.7mm - 3.1mm). The surface has a pale brown discolouration, with a pale to mid-green patina beneath. The implement is difficult to closely parallel and may be seen to …

Object type: BLADE
Broad period: IRON AGE
County: Wiltshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Copper alloy blade fragment of uncertain date The blade is fragmentary, broken at one end (with a surviving length of 51.9mm and a weight of 6.0g). The blade is of oval section (with a width of 9.8mm and a thickness of 2.7mm at the break) and subtle midrib flanked by gently concave blade edges. Both sides are edged and one side is subtly concave, while the opposite side is very gently convex, although it is unclear whether the form is through design or differential wear. The end of the blade is flat, rather than pointed (with a width of 7.7mm), defined by sub-triangular facets on b…

Copper alloy blade tip, possibly a tip from a spearhead of Bronze Age date The object is represented by the tip only (with a surviving length of 16.9mm and a weight of 2.1g). The break is old and the tip is of lozenge section at the break (with a maximum width of 11.5mm and a maximum thickness of 4.5mm). The blade edges have been lost but the blade appears to be straight and convergent to the tip. Both faces have a prominent rounded midrib continuing to the tip. The surface is corroded with remnants of a dark-green patina and the suggestion of sharpening striations running along …

Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Swansea

Middle Bronze Age bronze blade, possibly a dirk of Group IV blade with a damaged butt. The dirk is incomplete with some peripheral damage to the butt (with a length of 124.3mm and a weight of 29.3g). The shoulders are eroded but appear to have been comparatively broad (with a surviving width of 48.2mm) and is better preserved on one side. The original form of the hilt is now uncertain although it may have been of trapezoidal form with differential corrosion to the apex of the butt, which now has convergent sides. There are no definite rivet holes evident but there is a notch at t…

Copper alloy blade, probably a blade edge fragment from a Bronze Age axe of indeterminate type and date The axe is fragmentary, represented by the blade edge only (with a width of 36.5mm, a surviving length of 14.0mm, a maximum surviving thickness of 6.0mm and a weight of 11.0g). The break occurred in antiquity and there is no socket base evident on the fragment. The blade edge is convex and is incomplete, with approximately two-thirds represented. The original edge has been lost through corrosion. The surface is heavily-pitted and corroded and very little of original surface sur…

Prehistoric flint retouched blade The blade is incomplete, represented by a medial fragment (with a surviving length of 25.0mm, a width of 19.6mm, a thickness of 5.0mm and a weight of 2.9g). The retouched is confined to one side and the flint in non-cortical and is unpatinated.

Copper alloy blade, probably a blade edge fragment from a Bronze Age axe of indeterminate type and date The axe is fragmentary, represented by the blade edge only (with a width of 46.5mm, a surviving length of 12.8mm, a maximum surviving thickness of 6.7mm and a weight of 9.6g). The break occurred in antiquity and there is no socket base evident. The blade is convex between the tips and the blade edge is asymmetric, possibly through wear at one end. There are a number of nicks along the blade edge, however it is unclear whether these are contemporary with the use of the axe or occurr…
