Cast copper alloy cylindrical fitting. There is a small recess surrounded by a slight concentric moulding in the centre of the base. Three concentric mouldings at the other end give way to part of a narrower sub-rectangular sectioned projection, the end of which is missing. Surviving length 26mm, diameter 19mm. The date and function of the fitting are uncertain; however, its patination is consistent with a Roman date and the possibility that it is contemporary with the slide-key can not be dismissed.

The piece is probably the cross-hilt, inner guard or quillon of a dagger, rapier or sword, however not enough of the casting survives to be certain or suggest exactly what type of hilt this may have been part of. A fragment of a copper alloy unidentified artefact, possibly a brooch, and Roman in age. The fragment has a hollow back and iron corrosion which resembles springs, this is at the widest point of the object (10.8mm). The sides then taper to a width of 1.7mm, the narrowest point in the fragment, right above the flared foot (3.8mm). On the front of the object, at the centre of the widest point, there are the remains of a stud where a vertical line coming from the foot and a horizontal line meet. The fragment has a rough green and purple patina, and signs of iron corrosion on the back.

The object is an arch with a flattened top in plan and sub-rectangular in section, with an undulating and irregular surface (max dimensions 80mm long x 38.4mm wide x 21.9mm thick). Near complete, bur corroded copper alloy toy riffle or petronel of Post Medieval date, probably 17th century. The butt is slender and rises to a point with a damaged ‘guard’.
