An incomplete cast copper alloy and iron knife, the handle of which depicts an erotic scene, dating to the Roman period (c. AD43-410). The knife is missing all of the blade with the exception of the tang and the surviving handle has suffered significant corrosion and wear. The base of the handle is an irregular worn block 15.8mm wide and 4.7mm thick, with a slot containing the corroded remains of the blade. The blade appears to have been fixed, as there is no evidence of a pivot for a folding blade. The rest of the handle is an erotic scene consisting of three human figures standing o…

A cast copper alloy collar from a Late Medieval or Post Medieval composite knife handle. The object is roughly egg shaped in section, with a smooth, unfaceted outer surface curving from a lower point to an upper flattened surface with a notch in the blade adjacent edge. The blade adjacent face is bevelled to meet where the blade would have been, while the opposite face is squared off. There is a slightly tapering socket running through the centre of the collar. The socket is an elongated trapezoid in cross section, suggesting that the knife was single edged. This collar would have fitt…

Incomplete Post Medieval copper-alloy rotary key, for use with a casket or similar. The bow is round with a circular cross-section. The stem is solid and has broken before the tip, probably resulting in the loss of one of the two lugs which made up the bit. The end of the stem may have been hollow, as there is a recess immediately before the break. The remnant of the bit is rectangular in cross section. Most of the surface is missing, but a low moulding is discernible on the collar. The stem is distorted.
