Roman copper alloy mount or possibly a modified disc brooch of 2nd century AD date The mount is a flat circular disc with twelve peripheral lugs (with a diameter of 21.9mm, a thickness of 1.8mm and a weight of 2.7g). The face is decorated with enamelled cells comprising a six-pointed star with a central circular pellet. The exterior of the star was filled with blue enamel and the interior contains red enamel. The mount is comparatively small with an overall surviving length of 21.5mm, a maximum width of 10.1mm and a height of 8.5mm. The mount weighs 2.9g. The mount is rectangular with dimensions of 26.9mm by 22.8mm, a maximum thickness of 4.0mm and a weight of 5.8g. The mount has an openwork design depicting a standing figure beside a quadruped animal, possibly a lion and a bird perched on the back of the beast. The scene is Romanesque in style and may be allegorical. The scene is enclosed by an incised border. At each corner of the mount is an attachment hole.
