The buckle is incomplete, and is represented by a little over half of the outside edge of the buckle frame, and has a surviving length of 26.94mm and a surviving width of 33.45mm. The buckle frame is convex, giving the frame a surviving depth of 10.3mm, while the frame has a thickness of 4.45mm and weighs 10.5g. Buckle frame fragment of Anglo-Saxon date, probably dating from the 5th to 8th century. The frame is broken at both ends and has a moulded animal head projection erupting from above the thinning of the frame at the junction with the bar. The buckle was probably D-shaped, and is originally likely to have had a buckle plate. The frame beyond the animal head is plain and of oval section. Late Roman or Early Medieval copper alloy buckle plate of 4th to 7th century date
The buckle plate is near-complete but the frame and pin are missing (with a surviving length of 39.5mm, a thickness of 3.2mm and a weight of 9.5g). The plate was formed by folding the sheet lengthways with two strips to secure the frame. (5-6mm wide) and convex across its length. Early medieval copper alloy buckle probably of Anglo-Scandinavian type and 11th century date
The cast openwork buckle is incomplete, missing the frame (with a length of 38.5mm and a weight of 8.1g). The front plate is sub-rectangular (22.2mm wide, 25.2mm long and 2.2mm thick) with sides converging slightly towards the integral pin and recessed at the corners. An incomplete copper alloy and enamel object of likely Early Medieval date. The object appears to be largely complete apart from patches of surface loss, minor edge damage and the loss of the outer parts of the reverse perforated lugs.
The object consists of a plate with uneven thickness and a slightly curved profile. In plan it is rectangular with one end rounded the other end rectilinear, the rounded end terminating with a projecting circular knop.
