Recorded at the Hidden Treasure Finds Day at National Museums & Galleries of Wales. Copper alloy Saxon strap end, probably dating to the 9th Century AD, and belonging to Thomas' Type A. The strap end is made on a strip of sub-triangular copper alloy sheet, with a single copper alloy rivet employed to secure the strap. The strap-end is widest at the split attachment end (at 8.5mm wide and 4.3mm deep), which is near-straight and the two attachment rivets remain in place. The sides of the strap-end converge towards the terminal (to a minimum width of 5.5mm where it has a thickness of 1.6mm). The shaft is mostly undecorated but had three sets of parallel incised li…

Early medieval, Late Anglo-Saxon copper alloy stirrup terminal mount of middle to late 11th century date
The mount is one of a pair which would have decorated the terminals of an iron stirrup. The mount is complete (with a length of 46.4mm and a weight of 19.2g) and the rear of the mount is open-backed and would accommodate a circular sectioned stirrup (with a socket length of 40.3mm and of 7.3mm diameter). The interior of the terminal is angled to produce a slight under-cut ledge. There is no evidence for the iron remnants of the stirrup within the socket. The mount depicts an e…

The mount was attached using a single iron rivet and the remains of the iron fitting survive on the rear. The flange (with a depth of 9.0mm) is near-perpendicular to the mount and is as wide as the mount. The damaged loop appears to have been within the jaws of a beast at the terminal, with m…

An incomplete Early Medieval copper alloy pin, dating from the 8th to 9th century (c.720 – 850 AD)
The object consists of the pin head and a fragment of the pin shaft. The head is globular, measuring 7.7 mm in diameter, and features a design of punched ring-and-dot motifs, each being 3.3 mm in diameter. The applied punched design to the pin head’s surface gives a faceted appearance. There are 11 of these motifs evenly spaced over the surface of the head. At the base of the head is a collar from which the shaft of the pin extends. The pin shaft is 1.6 mm in diameter and it&…

The head is decorated on both face with incised ring and dot motifs. The decoration on each side is non-identical: one side has eight larger c. 3.3mm diameter ring-and-dots while the other has 10 c.2.5mm diameter ring-and-dots. There are very small lip mouldings on either side of the pin wher…
