Incomplete cast copper-alloy link from a bridle or other horse-harness. The artefact has fractured around one of the loops, which appears to originally have been oval. The piece is asymmetrical with a thickened boss next to the incomplete loop and a shaft running from this to the other loop. This is oval internally but lozengiform externally, with three lobes around the edge.
The artefact has a clear front and reverse to the object, with the front having a rounded profile and showing the moulding along the shaft, while the reverse is flat and does not show the moulding. The reverse…

An incomplete cast copper alloy Anglo-Scandinavian horse harness fitting dating to the 11th century AD. The object is broken at a boss or collar, from which projects a plano-convex sectioned arm. At the end of this arm is a loop. The loop is roughly circular internally with external knops projecting on three sides. The loop itself has a bevelled inner surface, making the loop wider on the reverse that on the front. The loop frame is of uneven thickness, suggesting either casting error or use wear.
