Near complete, bur corroded copper alloy toy riffle or petronel of Post Medieval date, probably 17th century. The butt is slender and rises to a point with a damaged ‘guard’. The butt gradually thickens towards the barrel and was decorated with ring and dot decoration. The barrel is of faceted-circular section and has a small circular hole on one side to take a charge. The barrel of the gun is blocked from the end, presumably with the ram rod.

Modern silver, copper alloy and cloth toy and coin, deposited in the early 20th century The find comprises a much worn silver coin, probably a sixpence of George II (1727 - 60), holed and found directly associated with a toy medalet. The medalet depicts an Edward VII penny and comprises two foils with internal cloth photographs of the royal family, now eroded. Post medieval copper alloy toy gun of 17th - 18th century date The gun is incomplete missing the butt and trigger guard (with a surviving length of 57.9mm and a weight of 12.8g). The barrel is of sub-oval section, with straight, faceted sides and is widest at the stock (at 6.8mm and 5.3mm x 6.8mm at the end of the barrel). Although a fairly common find type little is known about the date, places of issue, function and extent of circulation of lead tokens. Crudely cast, one-sided lead, or lead alloy (pewter) token. The decorated side contains a heavily worn radial wheel pattern (c.f., Dean 1977, 139, fig.2). Diameter 17-18mm, thickness 5mm, weight 7.8 grams. Although a fairly common find type little is known about the date, places of issue, function and extent of circulation of lead tokens. Lead tokens have been variously identified as trade tokens, counters, pilgrimage souvenirs, hop or farm tokens, tavern tokens, merchant seals and gaming pieces (Dean 1977, 141-142).
