Lead alloy or pewter hawking whistle of Post medieval date, possibly dating from the 18th century. The whistle is cast in the form of a dog’s head with a wide collar decorated with a ring and dot design. The dog is biting on an iron pin, which presumably would have formed a suspension ring.

Crudely cast, freestanding lead, or lead alloy, discoidal weight. The upper side is inscribed with the letter "H" in a crude Roman capital; while the underside is inscribed with a linear design which may represent the letter "T" in a crude Roman capital. It is uncertain whether the letter forms are cast features or were incised after the weight was cast. Both sides of the weight have a raised rim. Diameter 34mm, maximum thickness 7mm, weight 46.1 grams. Lead weights such as these could have performed a variety of functions such as unofficial weights and measures used by traders and mer…

A fragmentary cast copper alloy vessel handle from a pot or skillet, likely of Post Medieval date. The handle is cylindrical, circular in plan and measures 98.7mm in length. The handle is thickest at the end with a max diameter of 19.1mm. The end of the handle is smooth and flat with no evidence of percussion marks. The handle tapers gradually from the end and flattens slightly before curving towards the break resulting in a thickness of 12.8mm and width of 14.8mm. The broken end retains some original surface (4.8mm from external surface to break surface) which informs on the way the …

An incomplete cast copper alloy object of uncertain function, likely of Post Medieval date (c.AD 1600-1800). The object is an arch with a flattened top in plan and sub-rectangular in section, with an undulating and irregular surface (max dimensions 80mm long x 38.4mm wide x 21.9mm thick). The object is broken approximately in half, with half of a circular hole measuring 35.8mm internal diameter. It was suggested by Dr Mark Redknap that the object may be associated with metalworking. The metal is a rough dark green patina and weighs 256.10g.
XRF results showed the alloy is consistent w…
