Roman copper alloy bell-shaped stud with remnants of the iron shank on the base
The copper alloy stud is near-complete with remnants of the iron shank corroded over the base and is comparatively small (with an overall length of 15.9mm and a weight of 13.7g). The circular stud has a marginally larger diameter at the upper rim (at 16.3mm). The interior of the rim is bevelled inwards before the raised central conical boss, which is marginally higher than the rim. The centre of the boss is flat with a central indentation. Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Flintshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Medieval lead seal matrix of 12th or 13th century date
The seal matrix is incomplete and distorted (with a weight of 17.0g) and was of flat circular form. The break along the seal does not appear to have been a deliberate cut. The remnants of a lug are evident below the apex on the rear. At the centre is an oval perforation (7.2mm x 4.5mm), seemingly deliberate and presumably secondary the seal’s use. The seal die was circular (of 35.5mm diameter and 3.0mm thick) but the damage has made the seal difficult to interpret and read. The central perforation and surrounding corrosion …

County: Flintshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Fragment of silver decorative mount, broken top and bottom. The outline has the superficial resemblance to spoon handle terminals, but the figurative decoration is the wrong way round, and the cast is hollow on the reverse and clearly intended to sit against a flat surface.
The mount has a tapering form, widest the base of the main motif. This has the form of a crowned reliquary bust of a female saint with long hair, facing forward. The background is filled with asymmetrical vegetal scrolls, against a rusticated surface. Below the bust is a smaller triangular panel filled with what…

The find comprises six post-medieval English coins, of Elizabeth I and Charles I, with a face value at the time of £0 10s 6d; as received at Amgueddfa Cymru, they appear to have been cleaned. No associated objects were reported.
The find represents a small, but typical assemblage from the period of the 'English' Civil War, with the coins worn through circulation roughly in proportion to their age when lost or deposited. The latest Tower coins are from 1641-3, but the group is to be dated by the Chester coin, which allowing for the effects of cleaning is in fresh condition. A roy…
