Silver bezel of a finger ring containing an orangey-red, cornelian, intaglio. The edge of the bezel is decorated by a line of triangles running round its bottom edge and the back by an engraved floral pattern. The intaglio depicts a winged male figure, probably Cupid, a large bunch of grapes and an animal, probably a hare. The intaglio would appear to be Roman, depicting Cupid, a bunch of grapes and a hare. The same combination can be seen on an intaglio from Bath (Henig 1978, 200 no.113) where cupid is holding a bunch of grapes and a hare is jumping up to reach it. On the present int…

Near complete gold mourning finger ring of Post-Medieval date. The ring is distorted but is otherwise in good condition. The hoop comprises of four S-shaped barbed scrolls carrying an inscription on the exterior. The first S-scroll is shorter than the others and simply carries the letter W. The next S-scroll has: HARRISON, followed by: OB2SEPT, and finally: 1761AE69. Indicating the finger ring was to commemorate W. Harrison, who died on the 2nd September 1761, aged 69. The ring would have been commissioned and worn by the deceased’s spouse or child.
The S-scrolls are now plain, but…

Bezel from a gilt or silvered copper alloy finger ring of Early Post-Medieval date. The raised cast design depicts a cuffed hand emerging from each side of the hoop and gripping a central heart. Two flowers emerge from the top of the heart and are flattened by a crown. The remnant of the hoop has the beginnings of an incised design, but not enough survives to determine if it represented decoration or an inscription. Traces of gilding or silvering survive on areas over the surface of the ring.

Gold finger ring of Post-Medieval date. The hoop has a thin D-shaped cross-section, and is plain on the exterior. The interior carries an inscription, beginning on the hoop and continuing across the bezel. The inscription is in Lombadic lettering and reads:
I PRESENT THE ABSENT
The hoop widens slightly as it approaches the shoulders, which carry four raised knops forming a cross. The shoulders end in a raised line, defining a cuff before the bezel depicting two joined hands crowned by two ducks each side of a possible crown. Traces of white enamel survive on the ducks and the hands.

Gold finger ring with an inscription on the inside of the band reading:
GOD ABOVE KEEP US IN LOVE
The inscription is followed by a makers mark consisting of I G above an S , contained within a heart motif. There is another mark of a C within a circle. These marks have proved difficult to trace and therefore it has proved difficult to obtain an accurate production date for the finger ring. The ring is likely to date from the 17th or 18th centuries. The letterforms in the inscription are more likely to date to the 18th century (Redknap Pers. Comm.).

Copper alloy finger ring of unusual form, probably of early Post-Medieval date. The finger ring is incomplete and in two pieces, it is also considerably worn. The ring is a seal ring with a central motif which is now difficult to decipher. The bezel is oval with an internal border. The central figure appears to be some form of quadruped, possibly a horse with raised front leg. The hoop is elliptical with a sexfoil terminal, presumably intended as a handle to facilitate the pressing of the seal.

Silver decorated finger ring, probably of Post Medieval date. The ring has a ‘D’ shaped pofile, and has a relatively large diameter. The decoration consists of a series of four pairs of inscribed diagonal lines (c.3mm apart) with internal ‘rain’ pattern. The ring has a break, which may have been deliberate and secondary to fit a larger finger.

Incomplete copper alloy finger ring of uncertain date, probably Post-Medieval. A finger ring constructed from a copper alloy band, expanded at the shoulders and containing an inscribed border, soldered to a sexfoil bezel which would have contained a stone or glass setting, now missing. The ring band seems to terminate at the underside, and the missing fragment presumably would have simply abutted this terminal.

Post medieval copper alloy finger-ring, probably of 16th or 17th century date
The finger-ring is complete but distorted, now oval (24.1mm x 16.2mm and with a weight of 2.3g). The band is flat-sectioned with a consistent width (of 5.1mm and a thickness of 1.1mm). The deeply-stamped geometric decoration is divided into seven repeating panels but of uncertain interpretation. In the interior of the hoop is undecorated. The surface has been stripped with a dark-brown corrosion and traces of gilding surviving the recessed decoration.

Post medieval copper alloy ring, probably a finger-ring of 17th or 18th century date. The circular ring is near-complete with some peripheral damage (with a diameter of 21.2mm and a weight of 3.5g). The ring is decorated with single grooves near each edge. The interior of the ring is undecorated and appears to have been finished.
It is likely that the ring is a simple finger-ring, it is also possible that it is a …
