Recorded at the Hidden Treasure Finds Day at National Museums & Galleries of Wales. Cast copper alloy strap-end, probably of Late Medieval or Post Medieval date. The strap-end is one-piece with a circular attachment panel and slotted terminal. The strap-end was attached by three rivets positioned around the attachment edge. The terminal has concave sides and ends in point. The strap-end gradually thins to the terminal. The rectangular slot in the terminal may have been used to engage a suspended fitting or similar.

Recorded at the Hidden Treasure Finds Day at National Museums & Galleries of Wales. Cast Medieval copper alloy one piece strap end, probably of late 14th – 15th century date. The strap end is of rectangular section and thins slightly towards the outside edge. The closed end is composed of a waisted concave bar before three broken stubs, which would have led to the missing terminal. It is possible the terminal depicted St. Christopher within an openwork leaf-terminal, as noted in the parallels below. The rectangular panel is decorated with a fairly crude incised design within a chevro…

Cast Medieval copper alloy one piece strap end, probably of late 14th – 15th century date. The strap end is of rectangular section and thins slightly towards the outside edge. The closed end is composed of a waisted concave bar before a damaged edge, which probably led to a decorative terminal. The rectangular panel on the face contains moulded cast gothic lettering, consistent with a 14th century date. The letters are contained in two rectangular cells. The cell nearest the attachment edge contains the letters:
W a
The lower cell contains three letters, which are more difficult …

Copper alloy composite three piece strap-end with a sheet spacer, from the Medieval Period and probably dating from the late 13th to the early 15th century. The strap-end is composed of two sheet metal plates separated by a sheet spacer occupying the whole width. The sides of the strap-end are near-parallel and the profile is slightly converging. The attachment edge has eroded, but was likely to have been straight or slightly concave, and the outside edge is curved with a pointed terminal knop. No decoration is discernible on either face, but tinning or silvering survives on both surfa…

Medieval copper alloy three piece strap-end with forked spacer, this form of strap-end is known to have been produced from the late 13th to the early 15th century (Egan 1991), but most occur in 14th century contexts. The strap-end is composed of two tongue shaped copper alloy sheet plates with a rounded outside edge, divided by a cast forked spacer with a terminal knop. The terminal has a collar and resembles an acorn. The strap-end was secured by two rivets positioned near the attachment edge. No decoration is evident on the surface of the plates.

Medieval copper alloy strap-end of 14th to 15th century date
The strap-end is heavily corroded but appears to be of composite form with a forked spacer and is likely to be near-complete (with a length of 19.4mm, a thickness of 3.1mm and a weight of 2.2g). The top edge is straight (with a width of 13.2mm) and the sides are straight and near-parallel to the rounded end. There was a terminal knop at the centre of the base. The re is no surviving decoration on either of the plates.

Medieval copper alloy strap-end of 13th to 15th century date
The strap-end is of riveted, double sheet-metal type, without a spacer and is fragmentary, missing the attachment end and the break appears to have occurred relatively recently (with a surviving length of 21.4mm, a thickness of 1.7mm and a weight of 1.5g). At the break (with a width of 9.2mm), the sheet plate (with a thickness of 0.5mm) has distorted. The sides of the surviving part are straight and slightly convergent towards the terminal. The terminal is of trefoil form (with a length of 7.8mm). The two plates are sec…

The strap-end is of Crescentic type and is incomplete, missing the end of the terminal and the back-plate (with a surviving length 42.0mm, a thickness of 2.8mm and a weight of 8.1g). The missing back-plate was secured with four separate rivets, which remain in place. The rear of the crescent is recessed to accommodate the strap. The strap-end has a sub-oval aperture (17.1mm wide), open at the top. The crescentic area (with a maximum width of 31.0mm) has geometric incised decoration, probably letters for a brief inscription i…

Copper alloy openwork probable strap-end, of late medieval date.
The mount is incomplete, broken at one end and possibly also broken at the other (with a surviving length of 32.2mm and a weight of 10.7g). The wider end is straight and is the thickest surviving part of the mount (with a width of 25.1mm and a thickness of 4.2mm) and appears to be near-complete but is corroded. The end is decorated on both faces with diagonal incised marks; on the front face, the marks are cut through a rounded rib, while on the rear fewer marks are cut through the edge. The sides are convex (reachi…

Description
A copper alloy fitting of likely Medieval date (c. AD 1240-1450). The object is semi-conical in plan with one straight edge and the other curving to a rounded point with a single central rivet at the straight end. The surface is corroded so detail is uncertain, but the reverse has traces of a grooved border and appears tinned to a silvery sheen, so this may have been originally duplicated on the obverse.
The metal is an uneven mid-green patina with areas of silver colour on one side. The object is likely a plate from a composite strap end with the other plate an…

An incomplete copper alloy sheet plate from a composite medieval strap end (c. AD 1230-1450). The plate is tongue shaped and has two holes for rivets at its squared-off end. One of the corners is missing. File marks are visible on both faces as well as traces of soldering on the terminal edges of the inside face. This object would have formed one plate on a two piece strap end or a three piece (with a spacer).

An incomplete copper alloy strap end of Medieval date (AD 1250-1400). The strap end is made of a single rectangular plate with the fold having been broken and lost sometime in antiquity. The corrosion masks any possible surface decoration, but strap ends of similar shape and size are recorded in Egan and Pritchard 2008 no.749 with punched decoration. The folded plate forms two pieces held together by five domed head rivets, one at each corner and one in the middle, of which 4 survive.
The object is a green pitted patina and measures 35.6mm in length, 13.4mm width, 5.1mm thicknes…

An incomplete cast copper alloy strap end of Medieval date (c. AD1400-1500). The object consists of the font plate, crescentic in plan with two arms curving upward before terminating in old breaks. One of the arms is bent and traces of gilding preserves on the bend. A large trefoilate knop (4.5mm x 19.6mm) projects from the base of the plate and is decorated in incised linework to form a floral motif. Incised linework also decorates the arms - 5 equidistant sets of three incised lines, with the sixth set apparently being the point at which arm is bent. The plate is perforated by two i…

An incomplete sheet copper alloy strap end of Medieval date (c. AD 1350-1500). The single sheet is plain, undecorated, rectangular in plan and broken at the fold with surviving dimensions of length of 29.7mm, 9.9mm wide and 0.6mm thick. A single central rivet perforates the end of the plate, the rivet still in situ with a distorted depth of 2.7mm.
The object appears to have been bent in two places along its length, probably due to later activity, and surface corrosion has affected these areas.
The strap end is smooth with a medium green patina and weighs 1.34g.

A fragmentary copper alloy strap end dating to the Medieval period. The remaining part is a sheet, which has suffered a great deal of wear and is bent in two separate areas. It has a single rivet hole at the centre of the inside edge of the sheet. Any decoration on this object is now obscured by the loss of the surface to abrasion and corrosion. The precise type of strap this sheet formed part of is uncertain, as it is missing diagnostic features necessary to identify the specific form, which would have helped date it more closely. The strap end measures 20.41mm in length, 11.34mm in …
