A cast copper alloy bar mount with a central lobe and non-integral rivets of medieval date (c. 1150-1450 AD). The mount is cast in one piece, with a central domed lobe decorated by three transverse grooves. The reverse of the central lobe is concave. The two terminal lobes are slightly rounded, with circular 2.2-2mm rivets fixed flush with the front of each lobe, projecting slightly from the back.  No’s. 1160 and 1161 in Egan and Pritchard (2002, pgs. 213-214, plate 134) are very similar in form, although with different decoration. The object has a dark patina with encrustin…

Copper alloy hinged mount, probably a harness pendant suspension mount of medieval date The cast mount is near-complete (with a length of 33.5mm and a weight of 5.8g) and is of D-shaped section with straight side, widening towards the hinged end (with a width at the apex of 7.3mm and a thickness of 4.3mm and a width of 11.7mm and a thickness of 4.4mm at the hinged end) and is rounded at the apex. A near complete cast copper alloy mount of late Early Medieval to Medieval date, likely dating from the 11th to earlier 13th century in date. The mount is complete apart from the two non-integral rivets, which survive as stumps. The mount is flat in section (excepting the rivets) and roughly a wide shield shape in plan, with a near flat top and sides that curve smoothly down to the lowest point. The top edge of the mount is very slightly concave and measures 29.4mm between its rounded corners. The sides curve out slightly below the top corners giving the maximum width of the mount (30…

Medieval copper alloy enameled mount of mid-12th to mid-14th century date The mount is near-complete but is now folded and is of trilobed form. The mount form and decoration suggest that it was intended to flank a central plate to its right, probably with a similar mount flanking the central plate on the left. The right edge of the mount is straight and vertical but with a concave arc at both the top and basal corners. The top and basal edges are rounded and define the trilobed left edge. The mount was attached using five attachment rivets positioned around the edges. The decoration o…

A cast lead object, possibly a mount or weight in the form of a heraldic shield, of uncertain date although likely Medieval in date (c. 1350-1500) The object is in the form of a heater escutcheon, decorated in cast relief quarterly: 1 and 4 a bend; 2 and 3 a fret. While no tinctures are visible, but the charges and findspot make it very likely to be the arms of the Despenser family. The object is slightly bent, with an undecorated concave reverse unusual to weights of this type, which tend towards having flat bases that overlap the decorated front. Three holes have been roughly p…

A Medieval to Post-medieval copper alloy decorated plate probably of 11th or 12th century date. The flat plate is fragmentary, with an intact top edge but with all other edges broken in antiquity (with a surviving length of 31.6mm, a surviving width of 21.4mm and a weight of 3.8g). The late has a uniform thickness (of 1.2mm) and the rear of the plate is not decorated. The surviving part of the top edge (24.2mm long) is undamaged and has an outer-grooved border, inside of which is a decorated strip within a border. The strip has a symmetrical device of a stylised dolphin'…

Recorded at the Hidden Treasure Finds Day at National Museums & Galleries of Wales. One half of an incomplete Medieval cast copper alloy mirror case, probably dating to the 13th or 14th century. The fragment has the single lug present and is missing the hinge end. The face is decorated with double lines of opposed triangles, probably formed using a roulette. Four curving arcs around the sides define a rounded cross with an additional line running between the lug and hinge. The interior has areas of possible adhesive residue from the attachment of the mirror to the case.
