The fourteen coins appear to form a single group, lost or deposited in the middle of the fifteenth century. The earliest coins, of Edward III (1327-77) and Henry V (1413-22) are all considerably worn through circulation, whereas those of Henry VI (1422-61) are for the most part relatively unworn. The latest coins belong to the 'Pinecone-Mascle' issue, c.1430-34. Mostly, the weights are in accordance with the 60-grain standard of 1412, but three groats (nos 1, 6 and 14) have been clipped to weights corresponding to the 48-grain standard of Edward IV's 'Light' coinage, introduced in 14…

The find comprises five gold and twelve silver coins; the two 'stray' coins are indicated by asterisks. These two coins, like all but one of the remainder, are issues of Edward III, contemporary with the others and like them of full weight. One has seen some rough usage, but on balance the two were originally associated with the others. There appear to be no associated contemporary finds; sherds of Roman pottery and a copper alloy coin, of 4th-century date, were recovered in the same general area. Description of find The find comprises one gold and ten silver medieval English coins, of the reigns of Edward I-II (3), Edward III (2), Henry V (1) and Henry VI (5) (see appended Schedule). Metal content English silver coins of the 14th-15th centuries are typically of silver of high fineness, in excess of 90% Ag by weight. Description of Objects Three medieval silver coins. The three coins are all silver pennies in the name of King Edward (Edward I and II of England), described in terms of standard numismatic classification as follows: 1. class 10cf3, London mint, c.1307-9; 2. class 11a, London, c.1311-14; 3. class 11c, Canterbury, c.1311-14.
