Copper alloy seal matrix. Pointed oval, 33 x 20mm. Date: engraved c.1310-1350 and used probably thereafter. The Crucified Christ between standing (dexter) His Mother with veiled head-dress, her hands raised in prayer; (sinister) the young saint John, holding a book (St. John 19.26). The legs of Christ are crossed; on head, crown of thorns. There appears to be a holy rood, set upon the arches of a screen. Medieval copper-alloy seal matrix, probably of mid to late 13th-century date. The seal matrix is complete and is in good condition. The matrix is pointed oval in shape and has a slightly convex rear face with a rounded pierced lug at the apex and a gradually weakening rib. The surrounding inscription on the seal die is in Lombardic letters and reads: + S'CLIMENCE DAME DV BOIS (Seal of Climence, Lady of Bois). Crudely cast copper alloy ring. The inside of the ring contains several wear facets. External diameter c.25mm, internal diameter c.18mm, weight 5.2 grams. Crudely cast copper alloy rings like this example served numerous functions and can date from at least the medieval period to the early twentieth century. The recent suggestion that they are medieval belt fittings (Bailey 2000, 54-55) while plausible is simply one of many plausible identifications.

Medieval copper alloy Romanesque mount from a piece of devotional metalwork, possibly from a reliquary box or crucifix of 12th or 13th century date. The mount has broken at the neck and is damaged around the nose and mouth, in addition to having lost the original surface. The mount depicts the head of Christ wearing a crown with three lobes. The eyes are perforated and are likely to have held small blue glass beads. Medieval copper alloy zoomorphic harness hook The cast harness hook is near-complete but heavily-corroded and with some distortion (with a length of 71.1mm and a weight of 12.2g). The head of the fitting (18mm long, 12.8mm wide and 8.3mm thick) is zoomorphic, in the form of a beast’s head, probably a dog. The beast is depicted with a grooved mouth, slightly open. A complete cast copper alloy Medieval ewer spout dating from c. AD 1400-1500.  The object is curved, tubular, and zoomorphic in form. The opening at the attachment end is an oval shaped aperture measuring 19.78 mm high by 10.35mm wide. The attachment end, curves upwards to form the spout. The end of the spout is in the form of a stylised dog's head with an open mouth, squared brow, lenticular eyes and rounded droopy ears. Medieval copper alloy folding strap clasp of late 13th to early 15th century date The folding clasp is incomplete, missing folding end and plate (with a surviving length of 16.5mm and a weight of 3.1g). The outside edge has the separate sheet of the folding end wrapped around the frame (with a thickness of 5.0mm). The frame is trapezoidal, widening to the outside edge (with a width of 18.3mm and 14.7mm at the bar). Late medieval copper alloy candlestick, probably of 15th or 16th century date The candlestick is distorted and fragmentary, missing both the socket and separate base (with a surviving, distorted length of 166mm and a weight of 107.4g). The candlestick was of composite form with a circular sectioned plug (12.9mm diameter and 10.8mm long) to fit into the base. Medieval copper alloy buckle, probably of late 13th to 14th century date The buckle has a trapezoidal frame with integral plate and is near complete with an overall length of 41.27mm. The buckle frame is of sub-square section and is widest at the outside edge with a width of 15.59mm and has a width of 11.47mm on the inside edge. The plate has a damaged hole for the missing pin.
