Roman copper alloy buckle of 2nd or 3rd century AD date The buckle is incomplete, and is missing a little less than half of the buckle’s width. The buckle has a length of 45.83mm, a maximum surviving width of 29.83mm and weighs 5.4g. The buckle frame is of flat section with a thickness of 2.3mm. Post Medieval copper alloy asymmetrical buckle, probably of 17th century date The buckle is concave in profile with one rounded and one straight edge. The buckle frame has a length of 25.73mm, a width of 20.40mm and a depth of 6.99mm. The buckle employed a chape, wrapped around the integral bar with a slot to take the pin Iron corrosion around the slot suggests an iron pin. The terminal of the chape has been lost. The outside edges of the buckle are likely to have carried moulded decoration now lost. The buckle has a pale green surface and weighs 5.2g.

Medieval copper alloy buckle plate, probably of 13th or 14th century date The buckle plate is near complete, although the buckle frame and pin are missing. The plate has a length of 21.88mm, a width of 18.04mm and has a weight of 3.8g. The buckle plate is folded with a slot for the pin and a recess for the frame. The buckle frame is now oval in shape (length: 43.5mm external and 35.5mm internal diameter, and width: 35.8mm external and 28.5mm internal diameter and weighing 11.16g) but is likely to be of distorted circular form. The buckle frame is circular (with an external diameter of 38.5mm, an internal diameter of 31.4mm and a weight of 5.7g) but is heavily-corroded and with fragmentary pin. The frame is of oval section and is differentially worn and corroded (with a width of 1.6mm to 4.0mm wide and 1.0mm - 3.2mm thick).
