Medieval copper alloy harness pendant, probably of late 13th or 14th century date The harness pendant is near-complete, missing only the top of the loop, but has very poor surface preservation. The pendant has a surviving length of 39.06mm and has a weight of 4.8g. The loop has a surviving depth of 5.53mm. The pendant is shield-shaped with small traces of enamel surviving. Copper alloy outer case for a set of nested weights. Circular, with six external vertical ribs on cup and similar projections (poorly preserved) on lid. Maximum external diameter 40mm; internal diameter 36mm; internal depth of cup 17mm; maximum height 24mm. In its present condition (with corrosion around lid) it weighs 96.07g. There is ring-and-dot decoration around the rim top, and it is likely that the missing weights were similarly decorated. Probably fourteenth century in date.

Presumably it was either a cauldron, skillet, jug or ewer. Close dating is equally difficult as the form of the legs like this did not change from the medieval period until the seventeenth century (Read 1995, 95).
