Tile fragment. The fabric of the tile is relatively fine with no sand component. The upper surface of the tile has been marked, prior to firing, by at four, wide but shallow, arced grooves. The grooves are regular, suggesting that they were applied with a tool. The apparent impressions on the under surface of the fragment are modern. The upper surface of the tile is smooth while the under surface is rough, suggesting that the tile was manufactured on a bed of granular material; such a technique was practised during the Roman period. Dimensions 124mm x 119mm x 21mm. Dating of the tile …

Complete cast copper alloy terret, consisting of a slightly elliptical hoop with circular cross-section, the hoop displays slight wear facets near its base. The hop is positioned above an integral 'skirt' with knops at each terminal. The skirt has a rounded profile and consists of two sub-triangular faces and a short diagonal moulding on the outer edge of each side. It is possible that the arrangement of knops and mouldings represent a stylised ox-head on each face of the skirt. The larger knops flanking the hoop would appear to represent horns while the lower knop represents the snou…
