Description & identification
The reported object is a decorative gold posy ring. The ring consists of a thin gold band, D-shaped in section, with a tightly set repeating pattern of tooled S-shaped indentations on the external surface, possibly for enamel, although none appears to have survived. The internal surface in engraved with an inscription which reads ‘Though absent yet constant’ in italic letters in sentence case. The ring profile is slightly misshapen.

A complete Post Medieval copper alloy posy ring dating from c. 1600 to 1700 AD.
The hoop is broadly circular in plan (it is slightly bent out of shape) and is shallow D-shaped in cross-section. There is a central vertical seam which stands proud of the rings surface. The inner face of the hoop is inscribed with the text: I LIVE IN LOVE, in Roman uppercase lettering. The terminal of the letter I splits into two curving serifs. There is no maker’s mark.
The ring has corrosion to its surface rendering it a dark reddish brown colour. There are no visible remains of silvering or gilding.

A complete Post Medieval cast copper alloy weight, dating from c. 1500 AD to 1800 AD.
The coin weight is disk shaped with two flat faces. One face has been stamped X X at the centre. Above this is a stamped letter D. Below the initials is another unclear oval shaped stamp. On the other face X X is again stamped, due to corrosion it is not clear if the other stamps are also repeated. The weight is dark grey-brown in colour with small areas of green corrosion. Some of the original surface is lost to corrosion.

The object is an arch with a flattened top in plan and sub-rectangular in section, with an undulating and irregular surface (max dimensions 80mm long x 38.4mm wide x 21.9mm thick). The object is broken approximately in half, with half of a circular hole measuring 35.8mm internal diameter. It was suggested by Dr Mark Redknap that the object may be associated with metalworking. An incomplete copper alloy and white metal probable button of Post Medieval date (c. AD 1700-1800).
The button is circular in plan, with a central 14.8mm diameter domed boss in the centre, with a flat circular rim 1.1mm thick. The reverse of the button is undecorated and flat with a mass of probable solder in the hollow of the boss. The front of the button is decorated with three concentric rings of repeated punch decoration on the rim, using at least two different punches. The front is also covered by white metal surface treatment, though it has flaked off in the centre of the boss.

A complete silver-gilt posy ring of 17th or early 18th century date. The ring is heavy D-shaped sectioned hoop with a plain outer surface. The 2.5mm thick hoop is solid silver and was originally gilded. The gilding has largely worn off, particularly on the outer surface. The band shows a transverse line likely indicating that the hoop was created by bending a strip of silver and joining the ends with silver solder. A near-complete cast lead cloth seal of Elizabeth I (c. AD 1558-1603). The seal is made of two sub-circular discs (diameter 24.4mm, 4.6mm thick) joined at one end by a folded strip. One side bears the relief of the coat of arms for Elizabeth I with E R separated by a crown above and 6 beside. The other side is illegible and smashed into the reverse of the other disc.
The object is a pale buff and weighs 11.45g.

A complete pair of mathematical or surveyors’ dividers dating to the Post Medieval period, likely 17th-18th centuries.
The globular 12.1mm wide, 11.9mm deep head of the dividers forms the hinge fulcrum, below the head the trapezoidal sectioned arms descend 20mm before they curve out and back down to form a circular aperture in the dividers. Below the expanded section there are curled lip mouldings on the arms as they taper to a point.
The dividers have a rough brown patina with small sections of green patinated original surface.

The ring has a fluted bezel which is formed around the ring’s hoop. The bezel is crushed and the stone is no longer present. The bezel measures 3.39mm high, 6.11mm wide and 2.77mm deep. The ring hoop has a current outer diameter (excluding bezel) of 15.83mm and an inner diameter of 13.65mm, it is circular in cross section.

A fragmentary Post Medieval ceramic sherd from a vessel base, probably a handled cup/mug (‘tyg’) or jar, of 17th century AD date. The fragment is black glazed red ‘Cistercian’ ware with a surviving height of 21.0mm and width of 33.7mm. A sharp fragment is adhered to the inside surface of the base indicating an explosion in the kiln or misfire likely damaged this vessel beyond repair.
The fragment has a smooth black glaze with a reddish fabric and weighs 8.85g. A similar fragment can be seen Gloucester pottery fabric type series (potsherd.net)

A near complete cast copper alloy casket key, of Post Medieval date, 1500 -1600 AD
The key’s bow is oval shaped, with two pointed internal projections into the bow from the stem. There is a molded collar beneath the bow, which is comprised of two thin bands flanking a thicker bulbous band. The stem is circular in cross section. The bit consists of a rectangular toothed ward which ends at a worn break, suggesting there may have been more of the bit.
The key is brown in colour with areas of light green corrosion and an uneven surface patina.

A complete Post Medieval cast lead button, dating from around the 17th - 18th century.
The button is broadly circular in plan and measures 28.62mm in diameter and 3.6mm in thickness (excluding the shank) The front decoration features a moulded relief design, consisting of an equilateral cross with two circular pellets on each arm. In the centre of the cross there is a single circular pellet within a larger circle. The back of the button is undecorated with an integrally cast shank, which is roughly placed in the centre. An iron cannon ball, most likely of a post medieval date. The object is spherical with areas of concretion. There is corrosion and pitting to the surface, which is orange-brown in colour. The diameter and weight could be suggestive of the type of cannon ball used in a Demi-Culverin cannon.

A complete Post Medieval copper alloy trade weight dating to AD 1689-1702.
The weight is flat and discoidal with a raised rim around the upper surface which is stamped with the marks of a crowned WM (for William and Mary), an Ewer (for the London Founder's Company) and a sword (the sword of St. Paul for the City of London Guildhall). These marks date this weight to AD 1689-1702. Scratches visible on the rear of the weight do not appear to be decoration – presumably adjustment/filing marks.
