Roman copper alloy Trumpet bow brooch fragment of late 1st or 2nd century AD date. The rear of the head is concave and has a central loop to secure the missing spring mechanism. At the top and bottom of the loop are notches, which could have been used to tension the spring. The upper bow has a sub-lozenge shaped section. The design on the front of the bow is not apparent, but traces of blue enamel survive at the head. The centre of the bow has a lateral ribs each side of an acanthus button. At the rear of the bow, beneath the lower lateral rib, is the beginning of the catch-plate.

Near complete cast copper alloy zoomorphic mount in the design of an ox-head, probably of second to third century AD date. The ox-head escutcheon has hollowed back, used to help fastening by solder to the top-most binding hoop of a wooden stave-bucket (Savory 1964). The features and style of the ox-head can be said to be naturalistic. The flaring snout is rounded with a small ring and dot design for the nostrils, with the dot placed at the lower point of the ring, and an incised line near the base of the mount representing the mouth. The eyes are circular rather than lentoid, and prot…

Roman iron bow brooch, of Dolphin or Polden Hill type and dating to the 1st century AD. The brooch has corroded and none of the surface detail is now discernible. One of the wings survive, but it is unclear whether the wings terminated with plates (Polden Hill) or remained open (Dolphin). At the top of the head there is a forward facing claw to tension the missing spring. The head projects slightly before the characteristic dolphin shape of the bow. The bow is of circular section and the foot of the bow has the remnants of the corroded catch-plate.
