Roman copper alloy bow brooch fragment of uncertain type, possibly a T-shaped type and probably dating to the 1st or 2nd century AD. The brooch was small and is represented by the head and upper bow only.The head is comparatively flat. The brooch employed a spring mechanism, secured by a pierced lug, which is now broken, with no evidence surviving for a slot. The bow is sharply angled from the head and is of D-shaped section. No decoration is now discernible on the brooch.

Roman copper alloy brooch of Polden Hill type and dating to the 1st century AD. The brooch employed a spring mechanism, secured by a Polden Hill claw type arrangement. The wings are plain and slightly rearward facing. The bow has the characteristic ‘dolphin’ profile and has two low mouldings on the head around the wings. The bow is decorated with a central recessed groove, which forks around the claw at the head. Either side of the central groove are short oblique incised lines. The bow has a rounded D-shaped section. The beginnings of the catch-plate are visible above the break.

The brooch would have consisted of two parts, excluding the spring, where the wings were riveted to the head of the bow by an integral pin at the back of the head.
