A fragmentary Post Medieval ceramic sherd from a vessel base, probably a handled cup/mug (‘tyg’) or jar, of 17th century AD date. The fragment is black glazed red ‘Cistercian’ ware with a surviving height of 21.0mm and width of 33.7mm. A sharp fragment is adhered to the inside surface of the base indicating an explosion in the kiln or misfire likely damaged this vessel beyond repair. The fragment has a smooth black glaze with a reddish fabric and weighs 8.85g. A similar fragment can be seen Gloucester pottery fabric type series (potsherd.net)

Prehistoric pottery sherd The fragment is irregular (28.2mm long, 22.4mm wide and up to 11.2mm thick, with a weight of 5.7g). Two of the breaks are old, while the other appears to be more recent. The fabric has a buff oxidised exterior surface but the interior is grey and appears reduced. Frequent angular quartz inclusions are present within the sherd of small and medium size. Late Medieval pottery handled jar neck The sherd comprises one handle and approximately half of the rim (with an overall width of 190mm, a rim diameter of 163mm and a weight of 281.4g). The rim is out-turned from the neck and the handle joins at the level of the rim.
