Two Post-Medieval silver cuff links.
Two cuff links of identical design. Each is formed of two circular discs with bevelled sides and a lipped rim, joined together by an oval wire link. The face of each disc bears a raised, stamped design of a pair of hearts side by side, surmounted by a jewelled and arched crown set against a faint stippled field, within a raised circular border. At the back of each disc are traces of a corresponding recessed design, obscured by solder for rounded attachment loops. Silver gilt posy-ring. The hoop is of flattened D cross-section. The outer surface is plain, and very worn (having lost its original gilding). The gilding is well preserved inside the hoop. The inner face of the hoop is inscribed with the text Keep faith ˖ tell death, in italic script.
Internal hoop diameter 19 mm; band width 5.5mm; band thickness 1.3mm; weight 3.45g. The ring has not undergone any cleaning or conservation.
The form of the ring and style of lettering and wording of the inscription indicates that it dates to the seventeenth or early eighteenth century. There are s…
