Author: Dr Sian Iles Description & identification The object is a small complete silver seal matrix. It has an oval face and an octagonal facetted openwork handle. The octagonal handle tapers to a banded collar, above an openwork trilobed handle with flourishes. There is a small chip on the top left edge of the face.  The face is engraved with a heater shield containing a coat of arms, within a single beaded border. Description & identification The reported object is a small silver annular brooch with integral pin (frame misshapen. The frame is decorated with continuous transverse incised bands or ridges on the front surface, some of which are inlaid with a darker material, possibly niello. Circumstances of discovery and reporting A hoard of 37 Roman silver coins was discovered by David Henry Moss and Tom Taylor on 20th-21st December 2018 and 19th January 2019 in Caerhun Community, Conwy. The coins were found while metal detecting on cultivated land that was under pasture at the time. The findspot (a National Grid Reference) of the coins and addresses of interested parties are given on the Treasure Receipt Form. Circumstances of discovery and reporting A ceramic pot containing 2733 Roman silver and copper alloy coins was discovered by David Henry Moss and Tom Taylor on 22nd December 2018 in Caerhun Community, Conwy.  The hoard was found while metal detecting on cultivated land that was under pasture at the time. The top of the pot was discovered at a depth of about 30cm below the surface of the field, at the top of a slight mound. Description and identification Two halves of a decorated silver annular brooch frame. It is misshapen, with each part forming an elongated ‘U’ shape, which was once likely circular. The level of distortion obscures the form of the decoration on each ‘face’.
