Description & identification The reported object is a small silver annular brooch with integral pin (frame misshapen. The frame is decorated with continuous transverse incised bands or ridges on the front surface, some of which are inlaid with a darker material, possibly niello. On the reverse frame are four groups of evenly spaced bands. The dagger-like pin is attached by a wraparound head, decorated with three irregularly spaced parallel grooves. Description of the finds Silver crossbow brooch, complete and well preserved with little sign of corrosion, apart from the pin, which is of copper alloy and only survives as badly corroded fragments. The knob at the head is quasi-onion shape rising from a double ridged collar. The arms are a hexagonal tube that houses a copper alloy axial bar for the pin, which was hinged. At each end there is a knob, the same as that at the head of the brooch. Description & identification The plain pin has a broad wrap around head and transverse raised ridge at the junction with the shaft. Length 28mm; head width 5mm (incomplete); weight 0.99g. The object has not undergone any cleaning or conservation. To judge from its colour and weight and visual comparison with brooches and other silver dress accessories in the collections of the Department of History & Archaeology, the alloy is well in excess of 10% silver. Description: The silver object is a fragment of penannular brooch, one terminal and about 40% of the hoop surviving. The surviving terminal has a flat lozenge-shaped form, with rectangular cross-section, similar in thickness to that of the oval hoop, which has an oval cross-section. It is decorated on the external face with a central ring-and-dot motif, surrounded by four single punched dots. The terminal has bevelled edges on front and back faces. Small annular decorative silver brooch. The frame is decorated with beading in the form of enlarged filigree. There is no restriction in the frame for the pin which has a flat plain shaft and wrap around head. External diameter 215.4 x 15mm; inner diameter 13 x 12.4mm; maximum frame thickness 1.4mm; weight 0.96g. Surviving pin length 11mm; thickness 1.4mm (some of shaft and head missing). The surviving pin is in three fragments (recent breaks, associated with discovery). In terms of size and design, the brooch is of thirteenth- to mid-fourteenth-century form.

The reported object is a small silver annular brooch. The frame is decorated for half of its circumference with a four-faced cable twist, each facet bearing two rows of small punched dots. The opposite half of the frame is plain, with a circular cross-section. The pin shaft is missing, and the narrowing of the frame shows where the head of the pin was once secured. Description The reported object is the body of a silver annular brooch; the pin is missing. The brooch has been created by filing down the rim of, and removing the centre from, a silver coin of King Henry VI of England (1422-61); this has created a flat annular brooch with inner diameter of approximately 9mm, outer diameter approximately 22mm, with a thickness of the order of 0.6mm and weight of 2.27g.
