Treasure 2008. Wales : 08.21 The strap-end is in the form of a moulded rod, expanding slightly to form a bifurcated shank. It is broken across the hole for the rivet that would have secured it to the end of a leather strap. Functionally strap-ends existed to reinforce the free ends of leather belts and straps, such as the end of a belt opposite from the buckle, and in some instances to provide some extra weight to help the strap or belt-end hang properly.
