Description of the find About half of a finger ring with a flat elongated oval bezel and the remains of plain loop tapering away from the bezel. The bezel is decorated with a crudely scratched motif, probably intended to be a stylized palm branch. Dimensions: internal diameter 17mm; bezel 11mm (long) by 6mm (wide); weight 1.7g. Evidence of Date Good parallels for silver finger rings of this form, with better executed incised stylized palm branch motifs, can be found in the Roman period, second to third century AD. Cf. Roman silver finger ring, probably of 3rd century AD date The finger ring is complete and is comparatively large with an internal diameter of 22.82mm (27.55mm external) and weighing 11.5g.
