Silver gilt posy-ring. The hoop is of flattened D cross-section. The outer surface is plain, and very worn (having lost its original gilding). The gilding is well preserved inside the hoop. The inner face of the hoop is inscribed with the text Keep faith ˖ tell death, in italic script. Internal hoop diameter 19 mm; band width 5.5mm; band thickness 1.3mm; weight 3.45g. The reported object is a silver gilt iconographic ring (weight 7.18g). It has a ridged bezel, each facet engraved with three words, each on a separate facet of the rectangular bezel: ihs (between simplified sprigs) ave maria (in Black Letter script) Each shoulder is engraved with sprigs, within twisted volutes, the ridge tops beaded. The object is a decorative silver gilt finger ring. The hoop, which is of flattened D cross-section, has a break and is distorted. The outer surface is decorated with narrow bands comprising an engraved ring dot with four short 'spokes' (?stylized flower or star), separated by bands of raised dotes (each having eight rows). The finger-ring is a silver gilt decorative ring, complete. It has a rectangular bezel with a median ridge (creating two facets), which continues onto the shoulders of the hoop. The bezel is engraved with hatched dashes in a crude zig-zag pattern, either side of the ridge. The shoulder sections of the hoop have a slightly different arrangement, but essentially retain the same decorative motif. The finger-ring is near-complete, missing only some of the inlay. The hoop has a comparatively small diameter and is of rectangular section, with straight sides, which gradually diverge from the base to the bezel. The base of the hoop is undecorated while the remainder is decorated with three panels. The finger-ring is intact and of 'fede' type. The bezel comprises a heart, flanked on each side by a four-petalled flower, symbolising the heart sprouting flowers. Silver finger-ring of keeled form with triangular shoulders, which form the upper part of the hoop, projecting at an angle to the bezel. The circular bezel is plain and does not contain a setting; the shoulders are decorated with delicate linear moulding. The lower part of the hoop is plano-convex in section. The ring is worn, possibly as a result of cleaning. External diameter 21-23mm; internal diameter 14-18mm; weight 4.51grams. An example of Henig's Type VIII (1978, 38-39, fig.1) and Taylor and Scarisbrick's Type 33 (1978, 26, 39). Third or fourth century AD.
