The object is a silver bodkin-type dress-pin with slot and perforation (eye) at one end, and tapering to a point at the other end. The shaft has a flattened quadrangular cross-section with bevelled edges, and is undecorated. On one face, below the slot, is a stamped hallmark .W. The pin is bent, and has not received any conservation. Length overall 109.2mm; maximum width 3.8mm; maximum thickness 2mm; weight 6.47g. This type of object is now generally recognised as a bodkin of seventeenth-century date. Similar finds from have been made at Clavering, Essex (TAR 2004, no. 245)…
