Tile fragment. The fabric of the tile is relatively fine with no sand component. The upper surface of the tile has been marked, prior to firing, by at four, wide but shallow, arced grooves. The grooves are regular, suggesting that they were applied with a tool. The apparent impressions on the under surface of the fragment are modern. The upper surface of the tile is smooth while the under surface is rough, suggesting that the tile was manufactured on a bed of granular material; such a technique was practised during the Roman period.
