Late Medieval or Early Post Medieval silver gilt fede ('faith') ring with external inscription on a plain central band, separated by a deep grooves from a 'beaded' border made up of parallel grooves. The bezel takes the form of a solid casting, raised and narrower than the band width of the ring. The inscription reads: jaspar : melchior : baltazar : in a mixture of upper and lower case crude black letter script. A Roman coin of Carausius. The coin is a radiate aurelianus inscribed SPES PVBL and with a C still extant in the left field. It dates to c. 287-293 AD and weighs 5.72g. This coin is not a published variety - the C in the left field is unrecorded - RIC V, pt 2, p. 498, c.f. no. 411ff. (Recorded in Sam Moorhead's corpus for RIC).
