Description:
Silver thimble, missing its dome, which would have been made separately and soldered into place. There is an open vertical split. The upper part of the thimble bears an incised stepped design with pecked dot background, above a band around the rim bearing the legend.

Maximum height 19.7mm; thickness 0.03mm; weight 3.54g.

Belonging to a scarce series in the names of deified former emperors, issued during the reign of Trajan Decius (AD 249-51). Divo Pio = dative case ('to the divine Pius' = Antoninus Pius). They turn up in very small numbers in mid-third century hoards, and are rare as single finds in Britain.
