A fragmentary cast copper alloy sword blade fragment, probably of Late Bronze Age date (c.1150-750 BC), possibly of Wilburton or Ewart Park metalworking industry of Needham’s (1991) Periods 4-5, dated 1150-750 BC. The fragment is rectangular in plan and lenticular in section with an overall surviving length of 59.4mm. The fragment has straight transverse breaks on each end and there is a slight bend in the length , suggesting deliberate breakage prior to deposition (‘ritually killed’). A fragment of a cast copper alloy Colchester Derivative Hinged Pin (CD H) brooch, dating to the early Roman period (c. AD 43-120). The brooch is missing the pin, part of the bow and the whole foot and catchplate, as well as the end of the left wing. The wings of the bow consist of the robust cylinders 31.5mm in incomplete width and a maximum of 7.7mm thick. An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman brooch of Colchester Derivative Hinged (CD H) type (c.AD 43-120). The brooch is missing the pin, catchplate and foot. The tubular wings (c.2mm diameter) span a width of 27.0mm. Much of the original surface has been lost, but a single raised transverse moulding survives on one wing. Any decoration at the wing terminals has been lost. On the reverse, the rectangular pin slot is filled with iron corrosion and iron corrosion is seen at the ends of each wing, indicating the axis bar and probably the pin were made of iron. The brooch consists of the head, bow, foot and catchplate with an overall length of 42.7mm. The spring and pin are missing in old damage.
