A complete, slightly distorted copper alloy child’s bracelet of probable broad Roman date (c. 43-410AD). The bracelet comprises a single rectangular strip of 4.5mm wide, 2mm thick D-sectioned copper alloy bent into a flattened penannular hoop. The bracelet is twisted in the middle, pushing the terminals of the hoop out of alignment, but otherwise appears to be in its original configuration, with a height of c. 22.5mm, and an external diameter of 34.8mm and an internal diameter of c. 30mm. A near-complete cast copper alloy brooch of Late Iron Age to Early Roman date, Hull and Hawkes Group K (c.100 BC-AD 50). The brooch is comprised of the wings, bow, foot and catch plate, missing the pin (total length 48.0mm). The ‘wings’ are cylindrical with transverse mouldings imitating a spring mechanism and terminate in flat circular moulded end caps (wing span 30.3mm, diameter of end caps 6.6mm. Description of the finds Silver crossbow brooch, complete and well preserved with little sign of corrosion, apart from the pin, which is of copper alloy and only survives as badly corroded fragments. The knob at the head is quasi-onion shape rising from a double ridged collar. The arms are a hexagonal tube that houses a copper alloy axial bar for the pin, which was hinged. Description & identification The plain pin has a broad wrap around head and transverse raised ridge at the junction with the shaft. Length 28mm; head width 5mm (incomplete); weight 0.99g. The object has not undergone any cleaning or conservation. An incomplete cast copper alloy object of uncertain function, likely of Post Medieval date (c.AD 1600-1800). The object is an arch with a flattened top in plan and sub-rectangular in section, with an undulating and irregular surface (max dimensions 80mm long x 38.4mm wide x 21.9mm thick). The object is broken approximately in half, with half of a circular hole measuring 35.8mm internal diameter. It was suggested by Dr Mark Redknap that the object may be associated with metalworking. One of three fragments of a Late Bronze Age copper-alloy leaf-shaped sword. The morphology indicates that the sword is of Ewart Park Type, a widespread type which belongs to the Ewart Park Metalworking Assemblage (c. 1000-800 BC) (Needham 1996; Needham et al. 1997). This is the third fragment, representing the lower blade- other fragments are recorded as NMGW-A49E88 and NMGW-A4A891.
