The scraper is complete (with a length of 23.1mm, a width of 22.8mm, a thickness of 9.2mm and a weight of 5.2g). The dorsal face has extensive invasive retouch and only the proximal edge area is not retouched. The retouch is characteristically steep, more pronounced at the distal end. There is a small patch of surviving cortex along the proximal edge. The flint is largely unpatinated.
Thumbnail scrapers are often associated with Beaker material culture.thumbnail1313114NMGWNMWPA 2017.1412021-02-10T13:07:32Z2023-06-07T10:42:30Z5.2PAS6023DA94001B3C9.222.823.1110144241424255021906425502the Vale of Glamorganthe Vale of GlamorganLlancarfanST037051.42068411-3.3963967410NMGW-3DACB4Flint10837Knapped/flakedCompleteBRONZE AGEx13712EarlyEarlyBRONZE AGEx13712x13712Chance find during metal detectingReturned to finder2017141.jpg1132061images/dellbricking/WalesCertain12023-06-07T09:42:30.148Zthe Vale of Glamorgan10Unitary AuthorityKnapped/flakedNEOLITHIC1Metal detector2015291.jpg25502Centred on village (which isn't a parish)1189361NE13.5Unitary AuthorityCertain2NMGW25502Wenvoex1433731.1the Vale of Glamorgan108372021-02-03T16:03:47ZReturned to finderWalesCirca
Flint bifacial tool of composite type and probably of Neolithic date
The tool is incomplete, missing the proximal end (with a surviving length of 62.0mm, a maximum width of 35.5mm, a maximum thickness of 13.4mm and a weight of 31.1g). Although no obvious grinding striations are evident on the surface, two facets on the dorsal surface appear to have been polished, suggesting that the tool has been made from a broken Neolithic flint axe. It is also possible to suggest that the steep facet on the distal end is the blade edge or approaching the edge. There is steep retouch on the side of the dorsal surface, near the distal end and would appear to be a scraper. On the opposite side and on the ventral surface, pressure flaking has formed a knife edge. The flake has a hinge-fracture on the distal, the flint is non-cortical and has patinated over much of the surface pale-grey.

Prehistoric flint knife or awl, probably of Neolithic date
The knife is incomplete with the tip fragment represented (with a surviving length of 32.2mm, a maximum thickness of 4.0mm and a weight of 2.3g). Although the knife appears to have broken across its width (where it has a width of 15.5mm), there appears to be retouch over the break, perhaps suggesting the tip was deliberately backed and implying a possibly secondary use as an awl. Both sides are retouched along their entire surviving lengths, as they converge to the tip. The retouch is confined to the dorsal surface, although there are some possible utilisation scars on the concave ventral surface. The flint is non-cortical and unpatinated made on grey-brown flint.

The retouch is confined to one side and the end, opposite an area of cortex, possibly natural backing. The flint is grey with the beginning of pale patination on the distal end.
