Copper alloy fragmentary mount, probably an Early Medieval harness mount of c. 11th century date
The mount is fragmentary, represented by a fragmentary loop, an arm with decorative boss and fragmentary plate (with a surviving length of 25.8mm and a weight of 7.4g). The loop edge is curved, suggesting a circular or oval loop. The sides of loop were of oval section (5.0mm x 2.0mm). Adjacent to the loop is an arm of D-shaped section (8.4mm wide and 4.4mm thick) which is undecorated. The arm expands to a decorative, rounded boss (11.1mm wide and 7.0mm thick). Domed, cast copper alloy, multifoil, circular stud with two integral feet. Two rectangular-sectioned stems are cast into the feet, both of these are broken off at the level of the feet. Possibly a seventeenth century harness stud. Diameter 33mm, thickness 11mm.
