A fragment of a cast copper alloy Colchester Derivative Hinged Pin (CD H) brooch, dating to the early Roman period (c. AD 43-120). The brooch is missing the pin, part of the bow and the whole foot and catchplate, as well as the end of the left wing. The wings of the bow consist of the robust cylinders 31.5mm in incomplete width and a maximum of 7.7mm thick. The wings are hollow, containing the corroded iron axis bar visible at the ends of the wings and in the slot for the pin cut into the centre of the reverse of the head. An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman brooch of Colchester Derivative Hinged (CD H) type (c.AD 43-120). The brooch is missing the pin, catchplate and foot. The tubular wings (c.2mm diameter) span a width of 27.0mm. Much of the original surface has been lost, but a single raised transverse moulding survives on one wing. Any decoration at the wing terminals has been lost.
