An incomplete cast copper alloy and enamel hinged Trumpet derivative brooch of Roman date (c. 75-200 AD). The brooch is most likely of Mackreth Type TR 4.1a (2011: pg.126, plate 86). The brooch is incomplete, missing the foot and much of the catchplate. The head of the brooch has sub-rectangular, irregular oval sectioned wings. An incomplete cast copper alloy Colchester Derivative Polden Hill brooch of Roman date. The brooch is broken at the bow, missing the foot and the pin. The rectangular (becoming D-shaped) sectioned bow has mouldings towards the head, the central notched ridge moulding rises to for a perforated lug (or crest as per Mackreth), that secured the chord of the spring. The wings asymmetrical in section, one being far thicker than the other are decorated with two ridged mouldings on either end, possibly as a result of a manufacturing error. A cast copper alloy Roman brooch of Polden Hill type of 1st century AD date. The brooch is fragmentary missing the leg and pin (with a surviving length of 24mm) and one of the wing terminals (with a surviving width of 15mm). The spring would have fit inside the wings and secured between perforated lateral lugs on each end. A hook at the top of the head, now damaged, would have secured the chord. Description of Find The hoard discovered in 2018 consists of 69 Roman radiates dating from AD 260-274. The coins have been carefully cleaned to remove soil that was obscuring details, but the coins are in a poor condition with corrosion covering much of their surface. Several of the coins were fused together by corrosion product, but have been carefully separated to enable better identification.
