A distal fragment of a knapped and pressure flaked knife likely dating to the Early Bronze age. The flake is made from a distal portion of a cortical flake of semi translucent unpatinated grey flint. The dorsal surface bears patches of cortex and invasive pressure flaking removal scars. The ventral surface blade edges have also been retouched to form the point and even, carefully shaped sides. The knife has a transverse diagonal break at the proximal end. The invasive pressure flaked retouch suggests an early bronze-age date. The cross section of the blade is plano-convex, suggesting …

Plano-convex flint knife, probably of Early Bronze Age II-III date, corresponding to Needham's (1996) Period 3 c. 2,000 - 1,700BC. The knife is 51.7mm long and may have suffered some damage to the proximal end. The knife is widest about the mid point with a width of 20.6mm and a maximum thickness of 6.9mm. Both faces have been finely pressure flaked, although, as is typical there is more extensive pressure flaking on the dorsal surface. The knife was made on mid grey flint, which has patinated a pale grey to white. The knife weighs 8.2g. Plano-convex flint knives are often found assoc…
