Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Pembrokeshire

Incomplete, cast copper alloy rowel spur. The horizontally straight sides, D-shaped in section, taper from the neck of the spur towards the terminal. One arm is broken halfway along its length, the other is complete but has a damaged terminal. Enough of the terminal remains to suggest that it was originally formed by two rings, set like a figure-of-eight, equally above and below the front of the spur side. The neck is short, starts horizontal and then tapers towards the downward bent rowel box. The back of the spur is decorated with an elongated lozenge motif made up of cast lines. Cor…

On obverse side monogram design the initials "RS" (note that the S is reversed); on reverse side pictorial design of a rider on a horse with his right arm raised. Some modern scratching on reverse side; presumably, made by finder. The form of the letters suggests an early sixteenth to eighteenth century date. Diameter 15.5-16.5mm, weight 6.0grams.

Blade end fragment of a Late Bronze Age socketed axe. The absence of the socket and loop end precludes a precise ascription to type; however, the presence of three parallel ribs on both faces of the axe suggests that it is either of South Wales/Stogursey Type (Needham 1981) or of related hybrid type. The axe fragment is misshapen, apparently through impact with a blunted object in antiquity. Both faces have been struck, leading to marked denting at the upper end of the fragment. The artefact has a light green patina and a well worn surface, possibly representing damage through long…

Firstly, it does not display a four runner casting technology, instead, the excess molten bronze has projected above the mould all of the way around the mouth. Secondly, the loop extends from the underside of the mouth moulding, rather than from within it. Finally, the axe has concave rather than straight sides, giving it a slender curved shape.
